"Where I Am From"
by Thomas "Top" Lee
I am from hot beaches and cool waves,
From the ice cream shop and delicious lime sherbet.
I am from different countries and different places,
From Friday night pizza and ice cold sodas.
I am from pool parties and the summer sun,
From long days inside with a book.
I am from long Youtube videos and amazing video games,
From my Bermudian mates and a wonderful family.
I am from a pale yellow house and an epic swimming pool,
From long movies and arcade games.
I am from tall palm trees that danced in the wind,
From huge hurricanes that swept across the island.
I am from large grocery stores with overpriced food,
From rainy day games and fun in the sun.
I am from my sister and my brother,
From when I entertained them for many long hours.
I am from dark, cool caves, filled with unknown treasure,
From sea glass beaches and giant sandcastles.
I am from two countries, not just one.
I am from everyone I have ever met.

Two matching dolls and twine,
Blue buttons in a line.
String from ear to ear,
Enough to cross a year.
Pink chewing gum with wrappers.
For the most adventurous of snackers.
A knothole and a boy.
A strangely similar toy.
A girl of infinite jest,
With nothing to clean from her chest.
Scout and Jem.
Jem and Scout.
Contorted in size.
Exploring false doubt.
A dangerous duo.
A curious bunch.
Always wondering,
"Hey Cal, what's for lunch?"
Whether it's hopscotch,
Or giving geese bread,
These sociable siblings
Put big dreams in their head.
A tire swing summer.
A tree house type fall.
A snowy, white winter.
They've both seen it all.
The downfall of law.
The criminals of grime.
The sinners doing justice.
The foot washers of crime.
Several dangerous tales, one protected life.
Imagine what is wild.
"Hey, Mister Ewell. Where'd you get that knife?"
by Thomas "Top" Lee
I am a reader and a dreamer.
I wonder if fiction books will one day come true
I hear songs from the words of books.
I see pictures from the words of a song.
I want to be in Bermuda with my dad on a beach, reading a story in the sun.
I am a reader and a dreamer.
I pretend I am part of a novel.
I feel the pain and exaltation of characters.
I touch the smooth pages of amazing books.
I worry about who will be victorious at the end of a battle.
I cry when my favorite character meets a terrible end.
I am a reader and a dreamer.
I understand the way books work.
I say that reading is a good thing to do.
I dream about reading an awesome book.
I try to encourage others to read when they can.
I hope everyone can read as much as they want someday.
I am a reader and a dreamer.
